A trio of works celebrating composer Frederic Chopin’s 200th birthday.
The Crossed Line
Choreography: Matthew Neenan
Music: Fredric Chopin
Running Time: 32 minutes
Matthew Neenan explores the boundaries and shifting nature of relationships to Chopin piano concertos transcribed for piano and violin/cello. Commissioned for the Company in April 2004, The Philadelphia Inquirer said, “I don’t yet know how [Matthew Neenan] does it, but his unlikely phrases end where you’d not expect; his cheekily grotesque angles, by contrast, make classical technique look startlingly fresh.”
In the Night
Choreography: Jerome Robbins
Music: Fredric Chopin
Running Time: 21 minutes
Four Chopin nocturnes are the inspiration for Jerome Robbins’ three intimate pas de deux that articulate different stages of love and romance: tender young love, mature and balanced love, and explosive passion.
The Concert
Choreography: Jerome Robbins
Music: Fredric Chopin
Running Time: 29 minutes
Jerome Robbins’s comedic masterpiece is a spirited salute to Chopin. Set during a piano recital, the onstage antics envelop audiences with sidesplitting humor, witty timing, and satirical choreography at its finest.
