Born in Riga, Latvia, André Vytoptov trained as a scholarship student at the School of American Ballet under such choreographers as Peter Martins, Peter Boal, Kay Mazzo, and Richard Rapp. He also spent repeated summers with the New York State Summer School of the Arts and School of American Ballet’s Summer Program.

As a student, Mr. Vytoptov performed with American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet. He also appeared in the films Center Stage and Warner Brothers’ George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker.

Mr. Vytoptov was a charter member Pennsylvania Ballet II when it was formed in February 2002. He was invited to join Pennsylvania Ballet as an Apprentice in September 2003 and was promoted to the Corps de Ballet in May 2004. Some of the works in which he has danced include Balanchine’s Scotch Symphony and The Nutcracker (Soldier, Tea, and Candy Cane), Peter Martins’ Fearful Symmetries, and Paul Taylor’s Company B (“Pennsylvania Polka”).
