Corps de Ballet
Rebecca Azenberg grew up in New York City and began her ballet training at age three at the Joffrey Ballet School. She continued her training at Ballet Academy East and Studio Maestro, and as a student performed in Le Corsaire with American Ballet Theatre and in La Bayadare with the Paris Opera Ballet. In 2000 she was accepted as a full time student to the School of American Ballet. While studying at SAB she also attended LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. In 2003, Ms. Azenberg was chosen to be part of the New York City Ballet Choreographic Institute directed by Peter Martins, where she appeared as a Soloist in an original ballet choreographed by Benjamin Millepied. She also performed at the Palace Theater in Stamford, Connecticut in George Balanchine's The Nutcracker. In the Spring of 2003 she performed as a Soloist in The School of American Ballet’s Workshop production of Chopiniana, staged by Cynthia Gregory. Ms. Azenberg attended summer programs at SAB, Studio Maestro, Ballet Academy East, Miami City Ballet, and the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet.
Ms. Azenberg joined Pennsylvania Ballet II in Fall 2003 and became an Apprentice with the main Company in July 2005. She was promoted to the Corps de Ballet in October of that same year. Since joining Pennsylvania Ballet, she has danced in George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker (lead Marzipan and lead Hot Chocolate), Ballo Della Regina, Theme and Variations, Western Symphony, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Prodigal Son, Serenade, and Concerto Barocco. She has danced feature roles in Giselle, The Sleeping Beauty, Coppélia and was cast as one of the four cygnets in Christopher Wheeldon’s Swan Lake in Philadelphia and at the Edinburgh Festival. She also performed in the world premiere of Matthew Neenan’s Carmina Burana. Ms. Azenberg is a currently a junior at the University of Pennsylvania.
